Health insurance plans

One year after altering its health insurance plan, the city of Holdrege will start with the second phase of the plan. The city will focus on a wellness proposal offered through its insurer, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska.

The wellness program will provide education and other incentive to support employees direct their conditions and to improve understand health concern they may have.

At a usual meeting of the Holdrege City Council Tuesday, Jason Powers, the city’s insurance representative through Midwest Insurance Technicians, said the new health care reform package passed by Congress makes wellness initiative a must.

City Administrator Bob Rager agreed that the city needs to get the wellness program in progress with its employees. As the city transitioned from a traditional health insurance plan to its current high-deductible plan tied to a health savings account last year, it put the wellness program portion of the plan on the shelf. Now that the new plan is working, the city is ready to start on put into practice the wellness program.
