Under a typical worksite wellness program, employees take a health risk assessment that helps identify potential health problems. They are then encouraged to adopt healthier lifestyles or seek medical care if their condition warrants it.

Henry Ford Health System in Detroit will begin providing wellness programs to companies that seek to lower their health care costs and improve worker productivity.

"There are wellness programs out there, but very few have specific interventional approaches to get people healthy," Rodriguez said.

The Henry Ford wellness center uses a clinical approach that combines complementary and alternative medicine, including somatic movement and guided relaxation, with traditional medical care, Rodriguez said.
