United Health care has launched a new group of health plans in Colorado as part of an endeavor to reach out to Latinos and get them concerned in their health care. The package of plans, called Plan Bien, was fully introduced to Colorado in March.Plan Bien also is obtainable in Florida, Texas, California, Illinois, New Mexico and Arizona, though the plans are somewhat dissimilar in each market.

In Colorado, Plan Bien plans are accessible through a partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver to businesses with two to 99 employees."Colorado has a very important Hispanic inhabitant. If they grew up to be young adults before they came to this country, their first know-how with individual health insurance was with a different health care system than we have in the U.S.," said Russel A. Bennett, vice president of Latino solutions for United Health care.

Bennett said he believes that if people are more sophisticated about how to use their insurance, they will be more liable to take advantage of their coverage, and their health will get better."It's really an example of Colorado leading the attempt to reach our Latino community, which is such a rising and vivacious population here," said Jeff Campos, president and chief executive of the Hispanic chamber.

Bennett said it's too early to measure Plan Bien's achievement in Colorado and won't say how many businesses are signed up, but he and Campos said they have heard positive criticism.
To develop Plan Bien, United Health care exhausted seven years researching the way Latinos learn about and get concerned in their health care."Hispanics are looking for more supervision. Like 'tell me what I should do.' So it's a lot more authoritarian and educational than just talking in general terms," said Bennett, who led the explore project.
