At a time when Derry Newman takes the chief executive's job at British solar products contributor solar century Holdings Ltd., he had to find out a way to boost a tiny start-up into an international distributor, without expanding its staff.
As per Mr. Newman, everybody very full of exploit and each one actually exhausted, working 12 hours a day and then going to the bar to relax with alcohol. Then subsequently people were feeling rough and waking up with coffee. The viewpoint behind the leadership work is hardly earth devastating. A consultancy called the Energy Project, based in the U.S. and the U.K., shows people how to renew themselves by eating a better diet, exercising, spending time with their families and doing the things that matter to them most: Going to church or volunteering for a charity
Because he couldn't make people work more hours, Mr. Newman help them work additional successfully and learn about wellness programs. At his preceding job, as managing director of Sony Europe, Mr. Newman and his staff had participate in part of a 3 year leadership project designed to show people how to work better. Mr. Newman put all of solar staffers through the program in 2007 and 2008; the company plans a refresher course this summer.
But for Mr. Newman and a lot of of his former colleagues at Sony Europe, a division of Sony Corp., the consequence of the power Project on his staff was black and white. The key, he said, was the project's worldwide approach. The consultants start by training managers and then employment their way through the company.
